Marriage, sometimes, is about points, and in all honesty I have been running a little low in this department lately. I needed a somewhere classy for my 5 year anniversary, pizza and rugby (my 4 year anniversary celebration idea) was not going to cut it this time. Problem is, since the birth of our little man 2 years ago, we have all but become hermits. Unleashed into the night by our savior and child minding professional “the granny”, Florida rd at night was like a foreign galaxy of mystical wonderment to us, free, . Where to start… so many lights and sounds.
Alas I only had 1 night to make it count, and Czar was my gamble.
Apon arrival we were greeted by a smartly dressed man in a dinner jacket, very well spoken and polite, he offered us drinks at the bar while our table was being prepared. The lighting was perfect, dark and warm, with rows of fancy liquor bottles of with names that sound expensive and latin. In just the right amount of time our smartly dressed waiter showed us to our table, a romantic table for 2 in the big bay window. My wife loves big bay windows. The points were adding up fast.
In the dining room, again, lighting was key, mirrored walls reflected soft yellow strings of lights, with black ceilings and wooded floors the room was deluxe, the table was padded and soft.and the music, perfect, a sweet French accent with words that I could only imagine what they meant. Surely it had something to do with sex. The atmosphere was lively, but sophisticated. I felt rich. My wife felt special.
We talked and laughed, it had been a while since we were grown ups in love. Sushi starters added to our delight. I am a sushi snob, if its not perfect then I will never go back. It was perfect and I will go back. Alcohol flowed with conversation and peopled filled the room, local celebrities, sports stars, and some loud mouthed girl who wanted me to hear everything she said. I didn’t want to, but I did.
Mains arrived, the first time in my life I have ordered fish as a main meal, the seared tuna (topped with a tempura prawn on a bed of mash and veg) was honestly as delicious as they come, melted in my mouth it did. My wife (although I barely noticed I was so busy with my grunting and moaning with delight) was devouring her line fish – a mackerel that was pan fried in butter and garlic. Large meals. Which in designer restaurants these days is rare.
When you spend money these days, all you want is the quality for which you are paying for, we got this and more at Czar, the romantic atmosphere, the manners and professional courtesy of the waiter, the music, the décor, the only taste in my mouth when I left was a good one.
